Why does “everyone” say playing an instrument is an awesome stress relief?

Question by : Why does “absolutely everyone” say enjoying an instrument is an wonderful pressure relief?
I get stressed when I apply or play… and -specifically- when an individual is seeing or I have to perform for someone. If everything, choosing up an instrument has built me for anxiety stricken more than these previous years.

I even associate the feeling of practising/taking part in in front of individuals with manifeste talking. Yuck!

playing an instrument isn’t for everyone and its relieves stress the most when your in a room by yourself. playing a song that you love. and if your getting that stressed out over find a new instrument that better suits you or just stop playing and become an obsever.

you’re definitely a minority. but then, if all you get from playing is anxiety, why keep playing?

I used to think EXACTLY the same way. Then I realized that if people are listening to me, so what? I’m going to play what I want to play, do the best that I can, and be the best that I can be. And once you are able to do those things, that is when you will truly succeed. Play for personal enjoyment and remember the reason(s) you picked up your instrument in the first place. I’d suggest buying a book of sheet music from your favorite movie/TV show/musical and just chill out for a couple of days, bonding with your instrument and not worrying about perfection. Then you can go back to the serious stuff, remembering that music is fun and that you have a strong bond with your instrument.

i dont do well with public performances either. just one of those things, thats how i am. but still, i think of music as a great stress release, even if playing in public is stressful for me. nothing more relaxing than just sitting around playing one of my instruments, or having friends over for a jam. i think you might benefit from putting less pressure on yourself and focusing on the things about music that you like.
